The End of an Era?

As mentioned in a number of our recent blogs, Land Rover recently announced the sad news that the iconic Land Rover Defender will be discontinued this year, marking the end of an era.

The Land Rover Defender is world renowned for its reliability and durability and was first launched back in 1948. Since this time approximately 2 million Defenders have rolled off the production lines here in the UK.

The Defender has acquired for itself something of a cult following among off-roading enthusiasts, and in its 67 year history has served the likes of both the Army and the Queen. Yet despite its numerous talents and many years of service, Land Rover have made the decision to put the old Defender out to pasture, with production set to end by December 2015.

However in one last hurrah, designed to mark the retirement of this legend among vehicles, Land Rover have announced the launch of 3 special edition models which will become available later this year. These will offer buyers and Land Rover enthusiasts the chance to own a piece of Land Rover history. Here we take a closer look at these exclusive limited edition vehicles.

Land Rover Defender Heritage

The first of this new trio of limited edition vehicles is the Land Rover Defender Heritage. This limited edition is inspired by early Land Rover models and features green paintwork and a retro front grille design. From August, 400 of these vehicles will be available to buyers here in the UK, with prices expected to start from £27,800.

Land Rover Defender Adventure

This model is designed to be much more rugged and is aimed at buyers interested in a vehicle with some serious off-roading abilities. The adventure model will be available in three colours (grey, white and brown) and will feature a contrasting glossy black bonnet, roof and grille, adding to its distinctly tough appearance. This model also comes fitted with seven-inch projector headlamps, a roof rack and rear access ladder.

However don’t be fooled by its rugged exterior, inside the Adventure is surprisingly luxurious and is fitted with some pretty impressive leather seats and trimming. The Adventure is also expected to go on sale from August, with 600 models available to buyers in the UK and prices starting from £43,495.

Land Rover Defender Autobiography

Completing the trio is the Defender Autobiography, which is also the most expensive production Defender ever made, with prices set to start from £61,845. The Autobiography features two-tone paintwork and full leather upholstery, in addition to a variety of other luxurious touches. The Autobiography also builds on the spec of the Adventure and its 2.2-litre diesel engine benefits from a power upgrade to 148bhp horsepower, making this model a vehicle to be reckoned with. Production will be limited to 80 vehicles here in the UK and order books will be opening in April.
