New Land Rover Models Unveiled At Geneva

In a previous blog, we brought you details about some of the most exciting new 4×4 models to be released at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. However, we neglected to mention any news about the new Land Rover developments that were featured there. As we are an established supplier of Land Rover spares, we always take a special interest in their forthcoming vehicle ranges, and it’s fair to say that we were not disappointed with this year’s offering.

Many rumours were already in circulation regarding the next Land Rover updates to be implemented, and suggestions for the Range Rover, Discovery and Defender families have all been widely discussed. It is the Discovery range that is actually going to be expanded first though, as a replacement for the Freelander has now been confirmed. This introduction is expected to utilise the same style of underpinning as the Evoque, and is also likely to be kitted out with a 4-cylinder engine.

Forecast to be arriving around 2015, this Freelander replacement will then be followed by the long-awaited Discovery 5. This upgrade to the Discovery 4 will retain the seven seat capacity of its predecessor, but will almost certainly make use of underpinnings that are usually restricted to the sport variations of Range Rover vehicles. Other developments are probably going to be some years away, although there was one other announcement at the Geneva Motor Show that will doubtless make that wait far more bearable.

This pronouncement was the presentation of the aforementioned Range Rover Evoque; a sportier souped-up variation of a vehicle which has already been firmly accepted as a genuine classic. Widely acknowledged to be the most performance-centric Land Rover vehicle to date, it combines supreme comfort with increasingly agile handling, and is also a world-first that allows the user to control their smartphone apps from the dashboard touchscreen. This new Evoque is practically guaranteed to be a success, and completed a thoroughly worthwhile Motor Show for Land Rover as a whole.
