A Car Built for a Bond

If you’re a car aficionado then you’re sure to have seen the news, revealed last week, of the latest car to grace the Bond films. We’ve already looked in-depth at the various Land Rovers featured in the 007 franchise, but at the press conference held on the 007 sound stage at Pinewood Studios, we were treated to news that Bond will be back behind the wheel of an Aston Martin in the new movie, Spectre.

The Aston Martin DB10 offers a whole new sleek and stylish ride for the British super spy. Based on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, the DB10 has many of features of its predecessor, including the 4.7-litre engine. However, the design itself does show notable differences, including a stretched wheelbase and track, and the grille is also far more dominating than in previous models.

Head of design at Aston Martin, Marek Reichman hinted in an interview that they ‘want to focus on what James Bond’s hands are doing’ – which is a sure-fire tease that the DB10 is a manual drive, although it might mean some other nifty little gadget hidden within the chassis. There’s just one catch – the Aston Martin DB10 won’t be available to buy.

Reichman has stated that the car is built solely for the film; however it may give fans a clue as to what the genuine new Aston Martin will look like once they upgrade the current DB9. The intention is to give 007 actor Daniel Craig a Aston Martin as iconic as Sean Connery’s DB5. According to Reichman: ‘This had to be modern and unique, the future generation of what the DB5 was.’

For those looking to own a movie car, they’re also out of luck when it comes to the bad guys. It’s been revealed that the villain of the piece will be driving the million-pound supercar hybrid, the Jaguar C-X75. It’s not the first time Jaguar have been featured in the Bond films, and the car manufacturer themselves have been carving out a rebellious niche with the strapline ‘It’s good to be bad.’ In comparison, Aston Martin have been tweeting the hashtag ‘It’s good to be Bond.’

But hey, we only have one question: Which Land Rovers are going to feature in the new film?
